Hyperion is the market leader in Financial, Operational and Strategic Planning.
Hyperion is a database that allows you to access the data very quickly. The
company was bought by Oracle in 2007 and Oracle has continued to improve the
product.
Hyperion has 3 main products:
- Essbase (Extended Spread Sheet database)
- Planning
- HFM (Hyperion Financial Management)

is a multidimensional database management system (MDBMS) that provides a multidimensional
database platform upon which to build analytic applications.
• Planning
is a budgeting and forecasting application from Oracle formerly owned by
Hyperion Solutions Corporation.
• HFM
is a comprehensive, Web-based application that delivers global financial
consolidation, reporting and analysis in a single, highly scalable software
solution.
Oracle’s
Hyperion Essbase allows users to model, analyze, and interpret the
most complex business scenarios. Essbase is optimized to support On-Line
Analytical Processing (OLAP) as opposed to the more traditional transaction
processing (OLTP) found in relational databases.
This enables
rapid response times for large volumes of users and large volumes of
information. Essbase is the analytical engine of packaged applications such as
Hyperion Planning, Oracle BI Solutions, and the multi-dimensional data store
for analytical applications
